The Late Steve McQueen’s crib sold for $6.5M

One of Steve Mc Queens’ former homes, a ranch in Hailey, Idaho, was recently sold for $6.5 million. Sprawled across around 500 acres, the estate is situated in the neighborhood of Sun Valley resort. It was originally listed for $7.4 million so the buyers got it for 10% less than its original price tag.

The ranch was the property of Steve Mc Queen, “The King of Cool,’ Academy-Award nominee and among the top ten of highest-earning deceased celebrities, and his third wife, Barbi Mc Queen. They purchased it in the 1970s for approximately $340,000 and called it ‘Crazy M’ ranch’ and after the popular actor’s death from mesothelioma at the age of 50 in 1980, Barbie added a luxury 2-bedroom, 2-bath log cabin which links to a 1,700-square-foot entertaining annex. In 1999 the widow sold it to Wolf Riehle, who renamed it ‘Pioneer Moon Ranch,’ redesigned the original house and built an adjoining 1,500-square-foot structure comprised of one bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms, a family room, a dining room and a library.

The new owners, coming from the East Coast, had been hunting for a ranch property in the Rockies for five years before acquiring this gem and are now planning to expand the living space by adding another home. Despite the modern amenities, the house maintains its rustic charm.
