Affectionate giraffe shares touching goodbye with dying zookeeper

Zoo keeper Mario spent 25 years looking after these majestic creatures. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with a terrible disease, but he wanted to spend his last moments of his life in the company of his favorite animals, the giraffes.

However, when the Ambulance Wish Foundation brought Mario to the giraffe enclosure at Rotterdam’s Diergaarde Blijdorp Zoo, nobody would have been expected a reaction like this. The animals gathered around their beloved friend, sensing something is wrong with Mario. Then, suddenly the giraffes started to comfort and kiss the man who took care of them for so many years.

Thanks to the Ambulance Wish Foundation, who arrange the meeting, Mario had the opportunity to spend his final moments in the place where he invested so much passion and love, at the zoo.

“You could see him totally light up,” said Kees Veldboer, founder and director of Ambulance Wish Foundation. “It’s very special to see that those animals recognize him, and sense that he isn’t doing well,” he told Rotterdam newspaper Algemeen Dagblad. “(It was) a very special moment. You saw him beaming.”

The Ambulance Wish Foundation relies on volunteers to make these last wishes a reality for ill people, just like Mario. A lot of studies have shown that animals can sense sickness and disease in humans, including those with no visible symptoms.

Now watch carefully the video bellow at 5:40 minute to see as one of the giraffes is giving Mario one last kiss!
