Sometimes, there are moments in life that remind us what we’re going through isn’t that bad. For those who watched 10-year-old Calum Courtney belt his heart out in front of the Britain’s Got Talent judges, that moment unfolded before their eyes.
Not only is Calum a sweet young boy with a voice that’s from the heavens, but he’s also someone who copes with a mild case of autism. While things aren’t always easy for Calum, he doesn’t give up hope and passion for the things he loves.
This drive is what prompted Calum to gather all of his confidence and step before his country for a BGT audition. His family was nervous for him, but knew what talent he possessed.
Would his nerves take over? Or would he give the judges a performance they would remember forever?
When one judge asked Calum if he was nervous, he sweetly responded no. While a judge or two seemed a bit skeptical at first, as Calum’s performance progressed, they knew he was something special.
Even though many in the UK know Calum as the “Asada Boy,” his talents are relatively unknown in the United States. Calum first gained attention for his singing when he surprised shoppers with a performance of Smokey Robinson’s classic tune “Who’s Lovin’ You.”
Thankfully, someone had their camera running and shared this particular performance for everyone to see. Even after the hype around the video passed, Calum remained devoted to the idea of pursuing music — this was a feeling he wanted to experience forever.
The next thought that crossed his mind was to take a leap onto television. He knew he wanted to audition for Britain’s Got Talent and share his talent there.
After months of preparing himself for singing in front of millions of people, Calum bravely walked on the BGT stage. It was now or never — and he wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip through his fingers!
As soon as he opened his mouth, a sound as sweet as molasses poured from his mouth. The judges (and audience members) couldn’t believe how talented Calum was.
His family hid in the wings, knowing how amazing he would be. They couldn’t wait to see what the judges and audience thought.
