Baby opossum lost its mom in car accident – gets adopted by caring dog

Not just once, dogs proved to be the kindest hearts when another animals was in need of help. Because, these gentle creatures always seek to comfort and love other more than themselves. This time, a very caring white German Shepherd shows the world from what dogs are made of as she’s taking care of an orphaned opossum.

The fate seemed to be sealed for this tiny baby opossum, after his mom tragically passed away in a car accident. Life in the wild, is just impossible for a baby animal, without its mom to rely on. But fortunately for this little animals, he was found just in time and luckily he got a second chance.

When a rescue team found him, the baby opossum, now named Poncho, was climbed on its mother on the side of the road. Even though he was life, the chances of survival were incredibly low for him. Nonetheless, he was brought at the Rare Species Fund, a rescue center in South Carolina.

Fortunately, fate smiled at Poncho, because soon as he arrived at the sanctuary, he just met the sweetest creature – a dog named Hantu, who quickly became his adoptive mother. The babies opossum spend the first months of their lives climbed on their mother’s back, so when the volunteers at the Rare Species Fund noticed the white dog carrying the rescued opossum on her back, their hearts instantly melted. A beautiful bond was born, and another life was saved.

“They are both playing important roles in each other’s lives,” Robert Johnson, staff member at the Rare Species Fund, explained. “When Hantu goes for her daily walks through the woods, she won’t leave the house until Poncho is securely mounted on her back.”
