Bangkok emerges as world’s top destination once again

Bangkok has taken the best spot for the third year running in the Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index.

With 19.41 million tourists last year, Bangkok remains the most loved worldwide destination, particularly among relaxation explorers who made up 88.6% of the aggregate.

“The last five to six years have been challenging with political events and the passing of the King. But in spite of the challenges, Thailand has been an incredibly resilient tourist economy. It also comes down to Bangkok being a very connected city – just look at the number of flight connections – with investments continually being made in infrastructure. The city has also got the 4’S’s (sea, sand, sun and shopping) and is an incredible destination and gateway city for travelers,” has declared the senior vice-president of Mastercard Adviser.

Without precedent for a long time, Singapore defeated New York City for the 5th position with 13.11 million tourists.

Beside Bangkok, there are 3 more Asia Pacific cities, included into the top 10: Seoul (#7 with 12.39 million guests); Kuala Lumpur (#8 with 11.28 million guests) and Tokyo (#9 with 11.15 million guests).
