Couple notices photo of saddest dog – drives 6 hours to adopt him

Found wandering the streets of Los Angeles, Benji was taken to a shelter where everyone tagged him as the unfriendliest dog. Even the photo they’ve taken with the of finding him a family, displayed nothing but a sad face. Surprisingly, a young couple came across the photo and stepped up to turn Benji’ story into a happy ending one.

Jessica Williams and her boyfriend Jared were happier than ever when they finally found a pet-friendly apartment to rent. So after they settled in, they begun to search for a dog to adopt. They looked at all sort of announcements, but they still remain undecided, until Jared a photo showing the saddest dog ever. Their heart melted within seconds and they knew right away he was the companion they were looking for.

Speaking for The Dodo, Jessica said: “He was at the shelter for 10 days and wasn’t handling it well as he would snarl and snap at people as they walked by. I had never seen a sadder dog and knew we couldn’t leave him there.”

Though they have driven for nearly six hours – since the shelter was in Los Angeles and the young couple was living in Sacramento – once they got there and expressed their interest in adopting Benji, the staff tried to convince them not to do it, because of his very unfriendly nature. But only the thought, this innocent creature will eventually end up euthanized, made Jessica and Jared even more determined to adopt him.

“The shelter told us he wasn’t friendly and refused to take us into a calm waiting area to get to know him because ‘he wouldn’t be a dog that would come over to us to be cuddly,’” they said. “We knew that he had a high possibility of being euthanized.”

So the two didn’t loose any time and they adopted Benji straight away. But the way back home proved to be pretty tough for the sad puppy since he was still very confused and scared and mostly reluctant with his new parents. But fortunately everything have changed once they arrived in Sacramento.

“He loves to come up and kiss us and play with his toys,” Jessica said. “He is such a goofball now! He has crazy zoomies after he gets bathed. He will also start barking the second we get in the car as if to say, ‘We have to start moving! Let’s go!’”

Thanks to these kindhearted people, this adorable puppy finally got the happy life he always deserved!
