It says that water always finds its own level. And it this case it applies perfectly. Nick Abbott a 31-year-old man from Maine who was born deaf finds his best companion in Emerson, a sweet little puppy who’s also unable to hear. The two are now a perfect, inseparable pair.
While scrolling on Facebook, Nick came across a post in his news feed about Emerson, a 12-week-old puppy that lost its hearing. “I said ‘Oh, he’s deaf too,’ “the man told WABI-TV . “Maybe I can go check him out to see what he’s all about.”
When he was just 6-week-old, the black lab named Emerson was rescued by a Florida based shelter. He was later transferred to the North Florida Rescue of Maine. The puppy was suffering from seizures and got hospitalized. Here he developed an infection. Once recovered, he was put up for adoption, Lindsay Powers of NFR Maine, declared.
“Once we got him home from the vet’s office from Florida, we realized he had hearing difficulties,” Powers told “Good Morning America. “He doesn’t let it bother him at all, though he’s a typical puppy.” He had such a rough start to life and he ended up with an absolute fairy tale ending,” she added.
“Emerson is still looking for his forever home,” Lindsay Powers said on Facebook in March. “Please keep sharing, this sweet boy deserves his own forever home!”
So Nick quickly asked about the dog and they set up a meeting. “He came straight to me at the door and sat right away at my feet and stayed there,” Nick said. “So you can tell he kind of picked me. And I knew right then and there that we would get along and understand each other pretty good.”
Now Nick is teaching his new best friend how to respond to visual commands,which are similar to sign language. “The bond that we have is awesome,” the man told WABI-TV. “We understand each other very well. I’d like to think it was meant to be. He’s special.”
“If Nick reaches up and shakes his ear lobe, Emerson will bark — it’s so cute,” Nick’s mom, Richelle Abbott said. Watch this incredible pair in the video bellow!
