Dogs have proved so many times they’re not only “men’s best friends,” but everyone’s best buddies. And there are countless love stories between pups and different animals species. But just when we though we’ve seen everything in terms of unlikely friendships, a new story airs and wins everyone’s heart
The special bond between Barclay – the Golden Retriever and Rudy – a four-year-old Pekin duck, proves once again that love and friendship knowns no boundary and fur and feathers can get along in an unbelievable matter.
Barclay and Rudy both live with their owner Pam Ishiguro in Orange County, California and what initially looked more like a rivalry, later turned into such a heartwarming friendship. It all started when the Golden Retriever tried to steal some from the ducks flock. But the brave Rudy totally disagreed with the dog’s actions and started to chase him around. And that quickly become a daily routine for them. In fact they haven’t forgot it even today, when the dog and his best friend – Rudy, are inseparable.
“The animals are much like my two boys – they have a love-hate relationship,” the duo mom told Barcroft TV. “When they are together, somebody is always chasing or jumping on someone else, but when they are apart, they’re always calling for each other. Barclay loves to eat duck food – actually he just likes to eat and knows there’s always food in the coop, so whenever he gets a chance, he’ll sneak into the coop and eat their food.”
Now, the two buddies have put that rivalry behind and they’re helping each other. While Barclay use to drink the ducks bath water, Rudy love to climb on his furry friend’s back. “[Barclay] likes to drink their bath water and, if he happens to be stealthy enough, he loves to sniff a little duck butt,” Pam said. “Now Rudy has to ‘claim’ Barclay every once in a while by climbing on top of him.”
Even though there have some misunderstanding between them in the past, Barclay and Rudy now love to spend their time cuddling and playing together. “Rudy and Barclay need each other – I think that’s why they have such a strong bond, they’re like brothers from another mother. No one else will play with them, so lucky for them, they found each other and formed this unusual friendship,” their mom said.
