A few days ago a sweet senior pup just beat the world record for the oldest Golden Retriever, after she celebrated an incredibly 20th birthday. If you’re not impressed, just keep in mind the life expectancy for this breed is 10 to 12 years (if there’s a very sad thing about dogs is they live much more shorter than humans). Therefore, August or Augie just reached double the average of life span of her kind.

To top it off, Augie didn’t have had the happiest nor relaxing life. In fact, until the age of 14th her days were nothing but rough. When young, this sweet girl had to be rehomed twice and then she spent a lot of time in a shelter, finding a forever home when she was 14-year-old.

August was born on 24th of April 2000. So, even her birthday was actually on late of April, the news emerged online on Saturday, when Goldheart Golden Retrievers Rescue in Tennessee – the shelter that initially helped the dog to find a permanent home, has shared the great news on Facebook.
“At 20 years old, she’s just about doubled the expected lifespan for golden retrievers and she’s still kicking,” the rescue wrote in a Facebook post. “She’s lived so long largely because she’s got great genetics, but also her owner, Jennifer, has done a great job of taking care of her and ensuring that they have a good relationship with Augie’s vet.”
Happy birthday Augie and many many more, because it’s nothing more heartwarming than watching a senior pup celebrating its birthday, after it beat all the odds regarding its life expectancy. This golden Retriever went viral after his 15th birthday. Have a look:
