This is the adorable moment a rescued dog can’t hold back excitement when realizing he’s about to have his very own bed. But his reaction comes as no surprise as the innocent dog has been kept in chains since he was just a puppy!
When volunteers at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(SPCA) in Lancaster County, came across Stevie in a backyard in South Carolina, the poor dog was in a deplorable condition. Chained and partially blind, his eyes was dry and hopeless. But with such devoted animals lover, there’s always hope!
Stevie was then taken at the Diamonds in the Ruff, a shelter in New York, that frequently collaborates with the SPCA. Here they found him a caring foster family, to help him to heal both physically and mentally – a pretty tough job, though, after all he has been through over the last eight years. But Erin Boyd and her husband have plenty of experience working with neglected animals, so they have been very confident, Stevie will make it through. And they were so right!
“He slept most of the way, but would start growling and barking every so often in his crate,” Erin shared with The Dodo. “We knew he was just protecting himself. When we got home, we brought the crate inside, and he would not come out. We were extra careful, knowing he could not see and us not knowing him yet.”
An absolutely natural behavior for a dog who was forced to sleep in rain and cold for his entire life. Yet, he soon started to recover and to look stronger and happier than ever. But the most excited moment was when the foster family decided to surprise him with a brand new bed – something Stevie have never had!
“He sleeps a lot, but loves to snuggle, go for walks, chew on squeaky toys and give kisses,” Stevie’s foster mom said. “He’s so smart. He jumps, will sometimes chew on a toy a little bit and then passes out.”
Though Erin thought Stevie will be more than upon getting his own bed, he surprised everyone with his reaction. After a very tough life, the rescued dog just can’t believe he’s getting the chance to sleep on soft bed. His reaction is pure happiness. Take a peek:
