Eric Hertlein’s grandma has always had a great fond of animals. And what a better way to show her love for animals, than taking care of all the stray cats that use to wonder around her neighborhood in Kansas.
So every time Eric went to visit his granny, he always knew a bunch of kittens would welcome him on his grandma’s porch. However, what Eric would never expect was to spot a wild animal among those cats and his grandmother to not even know the creature isn’t a cat at all.
Over the last two-three months Mrs. Hertlein had been taking care for a tiny wild possum. But the funny thing is she thought there’s another kitten she’s feeding, all this time. Of course, when Eric let his grandmother know what’s going on, the woman did not even wanted to listen to him as she was one hundred percent sure Tete, how she named the possum, is just a cute tiny kitten.
“She reassured me it was one of her cats,” Eric told The Dodo. “I told her it wasn’t what she thought it was. I laughed for a good five minutes,” Eric said. “She didn’t realize what I was laughing about until I started pointing out the pointy nose and skinny tail. She didn’t realize he wasn’t a cat.”
Eric learned from his granny that Tete was only a baby when she found him in front of her door. Most likely, the poor creature lost his mom, so he was looking for some comfort. And he definitely found it into Eric’s granny and her kittens. “She loves animals and taking care of them whenever she can,” the teenager said. “It kind of just motivates you to do better and treat other beings better too.”
