Heroic dog saves baby deer from drowning

I’ve seen a lot of incredible things the man’s best friend can do, but this one seemed too much, even for me. However, it is as real as breathing. And whether it was a heroic act or just a pure animal instinct, it saved a helpless’ creature life.

Storm, an English Golden Retriever and his fur dad, Mark Freeley, were walking on the beach in Long Island, New York, when they spotted a creature struggling to get out of the waters. Within seconds, Storm jumped into the water to rescue the drowning animal. It turned out to be an injured baby fawn.

Thankfully, the whole scene was filmed by the dog’s owner and it went viral ever since. “[Storm] plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck, and started swimming to shore,” Mark told USA Today.

And that’s not all. Not only the hero dog pulled the baby deer out of the water, all by his own, but he even stayed beside her on the shore, to keep her warm. He and his owner stayed with the helpless animal until volunteers at the Strong Island Animal Rescue arrived.

Unfortunately, the disoriented fawn jumped into the water once again. This time, one of the rescuers, Frankie Floridia saved her. “I really didn’t have much of a choice,” he told The New York Daily News. “If I didn’t go in the water, the deer would’ve died.”

It will take a couple of months until the deer will make a full recovery. Then she will get back in the wild. Watch Storm’s heroic act here:
