A 22-year-old man from Mallacoota, Victoria recently became an internet sensation after his incredible gesture. He managed to rescue nine koalas from the bushfires that devastated his local town. Patrick Boyle, who admitted he’s “a hunter,” put his own live on the line to help the affected animals.
More than that, despite the area he lives in had been evacuated, the young man decided to stay in fire zone for the seek of the helpless wild animals. A easy decision, as he declared, “I feel, like most people, that the bushfire threat has come and gone. The front has been and past and has burnt a lot of the town. I feel safe here now.”
A couple of days ago, Patrick took Instagram to share a moving photo of a koala he just saved.
“I instantly found a burned koala that I took straight back to the wildlife shelter. It was actually remarkable how quickly I found koalas,” he told Stuff.co.nz “I’ve found eight or nine so far that have been rescued. I found over 10 that were [gone] and about another five that are alive and healthy for the time being.”
During a live broadcast, the young man admitted that based on his hobby, people won’t expect him to help wild animals. “I’m a hunter – I’m one of the last people that others would expect to help these animals,” he told Today. “Farmers, hunters and workers are the ones out there actually taking action right now.”
On the other hand, the unlikely hero is urging people to help the injured animals and to donate to the Mallacoota Wildlife Shelter. “To give people a sense of what we’re dealing with, we’re expecting hot weather in the coming days and the shelter is right by a gully. This puts the shelter under threat so we are currently moving all of the animals to a temporary location now to ensure their safety tomorrow.”
