Man gives everything up to travel across 48 states and rescue as many dogs as possible

It’s clear this man loves dogs. In order to raise awareness about dog adoption, he left his job and all possessions behind to travel across the country to let people know that shelter animals make great pets.

Since Lee Asher was young, he spent lots of time at the local shelter. As he grew older, he started to rescue animals from there and find them forever homes. So it should come as no surprise that when Asher became an adult, he continued his activism by continuously fostering animals and adopting his own “crew.”

“I always knew that when I was older I would have a house filled with rescues, so seeing where I am now isn’t much of a surprise to me or anyone who knew me growing up,” Asher told The Dodo.

Now, Asher has a new and bigger mission—to rescue all animals from shelters.

Asher understands that there is a stigma against shelters, so it’s important to raise awareness that the animals there make great pets. It’s a daunting task, but he is up for the challenge.

“The inspiration just comes from loving dogs and knowing that you are not only saving a life, but when rescuing a dog you are allowing the space for other rescues to possibly get adopted too. It’s a win-win and a beautiful feeling,” said Asher.

After buying an RV and quitting his job, Asher and his best friend have taken off on an adventure to save dogs, and along with them are the six adopted pooches Asher rescued.

His goal is to cover 48 states, visiting the shelters and rescuing as many animals as he can across the United States.

“We wanna show people that the dogs in the shelters are the most beautiful, loving, amazing dogs you can imagine,” Asher says in the video.

As of three months ago, the two mates and their pets have been to 31 states and rescued over 90 dogs, a truly incredible feat. But the duo is far from being done.

“I’m not even close to being finished,” Asher said. “The end, end goal is to clear the shelters.”
