Matthew McConaughey snags Lake Austin-area spread

Golden Globe Award-winner and Academy Award-nominee Matthew McConaughey and his fiancee, Brazilian model Camila Alves have reportedly purchased an 8.75-acre property outside Austin. The couple must have been hunting for a home to suit the needs of their family with two tots, according to the listing, it is “within walking distance to the area’s finest and public schools.” This home was on and off the real estae market for five years and underwent several price cuts in the process, so for McConaughey the purchase might have been something of a bargain.

Built 14 years ago, the three-story residence spanning 10,800 square feet looks like a home designed by a noted mid-century Palm Beach architect. The Addison Mizner-inspired home includes 7 bedrooms, 8 baths, an elevator, a gated drive with 2 circular motor courts, a 4-car garage and 7 boat slips down the hill on Lake Austin. The double-height foyer features a geometrically detailed ceiling, carved wood stairwell and beige tile flooring throughout most of the public rooms, the private family quarters and service areas. There is a formal living room with fireplace, a formal dining room with built-in wood-lined display niches and a state-of-the-art kitchen with 2 work islands, a snack bar peninsula and a breakfast area with stunning river views. There are 2 family rooms: one on the main level, with fireplace flanked by built-in bookcases and another one featuring built-in bookcases as well and shiny hardwood floors.
