Oprah’s Streeterville (Chicago) co-op – a bargain for the buyer

In July 2012 media mogul and queen of ‘rapport talk’ shows Oprah sold her Streeterville condo at half the price she paid for it in 2006 ($5.6 million) – such a bargain for a 3-bedroom, 3.5 bath  co-op and a number of external rooms. Oprah never lived in the condo, probably because of lack of privacy, and spends her time in the city two blocks away at her massive duplex condo in Water Tower Place.

The 4,607-square-foot unit is one of 13 apartments in a famous Beaux Arts style building in E. Lake Shore Dive, built in 1913 and designed by architect Benjamin Marshall. It features 10-foot-high ceilings, a library, a solarium, a wine room and a gourmet custom eat-in kitchen. Also, thre is an inner foyer, two fireplaces, a formal dining room, a butler’s pantry, a 1,241-square-foot master bedroom with his-and-hers bathrooms and an en suite guest room.

In Winfrey’s Chicago estate portfolio there are a house in Elmwood Park and one in Merriville, Ind. Her main residence is her luxury estate in Montecito, Calif. (‘Promised Land’), which she bought in 2001 for a whopping $52 million.
