“I was out every night walking on the riverbank looking for beavers and there was a lot of geese activity” Mike told The Dodo. “It got to be quite entertaining to watch them. They’re so cute when they’re little — like little tennis balls with legs. So I started taking pictures of them. ”

One afternoon, while walking on the riverbank Mike spotted a goose taking care of a large group of goslings. The young man initially counted 16 adorable little fluffy balls, only to count 30 next day and 47 the other day. And all being watched by this ‘super mom’ goose. “I was stunned that this mom had 16 babies, so I started going back every night looking for this mom and her goslings,” he said. “The group got bigger by the day.”

And what’s even more fascinating is the goose was actually baby sitting all those cute little ones as they came from different families. It’s very common for gooses or ducks to take care of each other’s babies. But even so it requires a lot of skills and patience to look after such a large number of babies and to keep them all safe. Have a look how a duck is also taking care of more than 50 ducklings:
