Susan Weber Soros paid $22.5M for East 70th Street mansion

Susan Weber Soros, the founder of the Bard College Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, design, and Culture, ex-wife of billionaire and philanthropist George Soros, bought a five-story townhouse in October 2012, just weeks after she listed her upscale 6,000-square-foot 10-room apartment (five-bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms) at the Majestic with a jaw-dropping $50 million price tag. The unit used to be owned by hotelier Ian Schrager who had famous designer Phillipe Starck do the place up. When ex- Mrs. Soros moved in, she renovated it to her taste. It still is for sale fully furnished and also includes a separate one-bedroom one-bath apartment for the staff. Every main room has views of Central park and the master bedroom has a terrace facing the park.

The Upper East Side luxury pad, near Park Avenue, was built in 1869 and measures 6,730 square feet including five bedrooms, four-plus bathrooms, four powder rooms two terraces, a gourmet kitchen and a glass gazebo serving as breakfast room, which opens to a 26-foot-deep garden.

Quite coincidentally, in the same month George Soros’s daughter, Andrea Soros Colombel, listed her four-story townhouse on West 10th Street for 29.5 million.  It looks like the Soros current or former members are downsizing!
