Last week, a Golden Retriever puppy was found lifeless inside a submerged cage in Jennings Pond off of Bonter Road in West Milford, New Jersey.
The puppy was found Tuesday in West Milford by a rescue officer. The crate had weights attached to it and also contained a crystal vase with a price tag of “$22” still on it. The story created a backlash on social media and after further investigations, the heartless person who did this was finally charged.
Her name is Tonya Fea, a 47-year-old woman from Jefferson Township and she is charged with two counts of animal unwell treatment, as one of trespassing, according to authorities.
After the puppy, named Jenny, was discovered, a found raise has been created on Facebook and a lot of people have donated to “The Last Resort Rescue” to raise $8500 as reward for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the culprit. However, the reward has quickly reached to $12,000, thanks to animal lovers.
The non-profit animal organization also launched the hashtag #JusticeForJenny.
“One of our rescue officers at The Last Resort Rescue noticed a crate at the edge of the pond on Bonter Road on the oak ridge side of town with a puppy in it,” wrote Nancy Warner, quoted by Daily Voice.
“The puppy was dead and ice cold and soaking wet inside the crate, lakebed vegetation hanging on the crate,” she added.
The police officers also found out that Fea had made an appointment at the West Milford Animal Hospital for a Golden Retriever puppy on the same day, the poor puppy was found. According to authorities, she did not show up nor cancel it.
On May 22, Tonya Fea will have her first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Paterson, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and West Milford Police Chief Timothy Storbeck said in an announcement.
